Well it’s been a while but we ain’t been idle (well not totally idle, anyway)
Here’s a roundup of news and future info to bring us all up to date.
We now have some extra people to call on (the band line-up from gig to gig is a bit of a moveable feast)
Welcomed to the fold of Bel-Airs Old and New, are Sean Radbourne (Bass), Kenny Gair (Bass, vocals) and “Sci-Fi” Jim Byatt – (Guitar, Vocals) giving a current roster of:
- Mike Wallace (Drums)
- Tony Duffy (Keys, Guitar, Mandolin, Slide, Harp, Vocals)
- Lovat Fraser (Bass)
- Rod Philip (Guitar, Vocals)
- Ian Holmes-Lewis (Percussion)
- Kim Seymour (Vocals)
and previous friends:
- Laura-May Gibson (Vocals)
- Iain Gibney (Guitar)
- Marc Boulay (Bass)
- Gilly Dick (Bass, Vocals)
- Charlie Jefferson (Bass)
- Richard Young (Keys, Guitar, Vocals)
- Pete Rabjohns (Drums)
We’ve done some recording since we last reported and hopefully this will be translated into a couple of CD-EPs which you will be able to pick up at our future gigs…. (Just as soon as Richard gets them mixed and mastered)
Since we last spoke, we’ve done a very enjoyable double-header with the TrueTones at the Twa Tams in Perth (15th March), and we’ll be back there before long.
We’ve also been attending (in various configurations) the Thursday Night Jam at Sinky’s in Dunfermline with the Fabulous Falcons. There (hopefully as a full band) on May 23rd to welcome Kim’s sister Jacqui back from Australia (who I used to work with in “Sierra Bonde” in the 70’s)
A subgroup, (Me and him and Sci-Fi Jim) did some Jazz and Blues for the Pittenweem Chocolate Company’s “Chocolat” evening on the 27th March, with film projection by Colinsburgh Community Cinema.
Coming up, we’ll be back in Fife on the 20th June for a special night in the “Secret Gig” series, a double header with the Truetones again and some very special guests. Details will be released soon. Invited guests only….
We’re also back doing a Cabaret evening at the Pittenweem Arts Festival again this year on the 4th August.
Richard has been busy this year with trips to Qatar and the States with Buster James and Drever, McGuire and Young respectively.
Rod and Pete will be doing some recording with Bare Bones soon – documenting the original tunes by the band, before it shuts down completely.
In the spirit of “Never Say Never”, Rod has also been working with the members of “Big Ben and the Tick Tocks”, so there might be a revival there which should be innerestin’, to0 say the least.
Jock’s Juke Joint Vol2 has been nominated for “Best Album” in this years British Blues Awards – featuring the TrueTones and Richard Young (The Bel-Airs and Lovat Fraser were on Vol1), and Volume 3 has recently been released.
